Open Doors campaign

24  June, 2010

Improved community health and happiness is the aim of the 2010 YMCA Open Doors campaign at Phillip Island Leisure Centre and Wonthaggi Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

The story of Chris Taylor is a great example how the YMCA can assist disadvantaged people.

They said he was unfixable. James Butcher was a fit, healthy 18 year old in March 2008 when a bottle was smashed on his head, from behind.

He was trying to help a friend. They told his mother he would die. Since April 2009 YMCA Open Doors has been supporting James to get back on his feet.

Chris Taylor is his personal trainer at the Macleod YMCA. Chris believes in James. James loves stirring Chris. Every session, there’s progress.

YMCA Open Doors helps people in your community, like James, get stronger in body, mind and spirit.

YMCA Open Doors aims to ensure that no one is denied access by raising funds to cover the cost of Y programs and services for people experiencing disadvantage.

To support YMCA Open Doors, or to find out more, please speak with someone at customer service, call YMCA on (03) 9403 5000 or visit the YMCA Victoria website to make a secure online donation.
